Powys THB and Primary Care services across Powys.

About Us

The Library provides services to all staff working for Powys Teaching Health Board and Powys primary care services, including students on placement.

Opening Hours

Out of hours Access / Arrangements :

Access is available 24 hours a day for medical staff and medical students on placement. A keycode is required; please ask staff for details. 

Library Facilities / Access

Access is available to all staff and students of Powys Teaching Health Board and Powys primary careorganisations. Staff and students from other Powys organisations - by prior arrangement.

Study and IT Facilities:

  • 12 study spaces

  • 8 networked computers

  • Powys Guest wifi available for those wishing to use own devices (simple registration process)

  • Printer/copier/scanner (some charges for certain services)

 

Main Services:

  • Enquiry Service

  • Literature Searches

  • Information Searching Skills training (face-to-face and virtually via MS Teams or Skype)

  • Library drop-in sessions at sites across Powys

  • Current Awareness Service

  • Book loans from collection held at Bronllys

  • Photocopies/scanned copies of journal articles held at Bronllys

  • Request service for books or journal articles held by other libraries

  • Self-service photocopying

  • Support for Revalidation and Reflective Practice

  • Subject guides detailing useful resources by specialities and user guides to using the various electronic resources available in Powys and via the NHS Wales e-Library for Health.


Joining the Library:

  • To join the library please contact us on 01874 712576 or via email, or complete

the online registration form

 

Borrowing Books:

  • You may borrow a maximum of 10 books

  • Loans are for 4 weeks but you may renew on request or online via NHS Wales LibrarySearch

  • You will receive regular email reminders about your book loans

  • Books that are held by other libraries (NHS Wales libraries, Cardiff University libraries and the British Library) can be requested for you. There may be a charge for some material held by other libraries (e.g. the British Library).

 

Literature searches:

  • Literature searches for patient care, clinical audit, service improvement, lifelong learning are available on request

  • Literature searching requests can be made via telephone, the online form or via email and returned to you via email.


Evidence Summaries:


Databases:

  • Access to all NHS Wales e-Library for Health databases including the Cochrane Library, Medline, Psychinfo, Embase, British Nursing Index, Emcare, Maternity & Infant Care (MIDIRS), AMED, HMIC, Micromedex, Clinical Key, Clinical Key for Nursing – from work (NHS Wales intranet) and home (via your Powys Open Athens account)

  • Access to BMJ e-Learning, for all staff including Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and trainees via the NHS Wales e-Library for Health – register using your Open Athens account

  • Access to Powys-only resources including CINAHL Complete (nursing & allied health, including fulltext access to 1500+ e-journals) – access via your Powys Open Athens account

  • Access to Powys Medicines Management databases for Powys Medicines Management staff –access via Powys Open Athens account


Article and e-journal access:

  • Over 3000 e-journals are available to NHS Wales staff (including Primary Care staff) from work or home via the NHS Wales e-Library for Health

  • You can access the national e-journal collections via NHS Wales LibrarySearch, whilst access to the local e-journal collection is via your Powys Open Athens account

  • Please contact email or telephone the Library at Bronllys for further help with article access

  • We can usually obtain copies of articles that are not available from the Powys or NHS Wales e-Library collections via our document supply service

  • You can request articles via internal mail, email, or telephone. Where possible we will email the requested article to you.

  • If you have any queries about the library service, please contact Library staff who will be happy to help.
