The library is located the front of the hospital, on the first floor and provides services to all health board staff and students on placement.

ST CADOC'S HOSPITAL LIBRARY

About Us

St Cadoc’s hospital opened in 1906 and originally the library was based on the ground floor, however, moved in the 1960s. St Cadoc’s library now shares the first floor at the front of the hospital with the postgraduate centre. The library is to the left of the clock tower and the postgraduate centre to the right. The library is staffed by the St Cadoc’s Librarian and is part of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Opening Hours

The library is currently staffed on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, but remains unstaffed on Monday and Friday. 

Library Facilities / Access

Access is available to all NHS Wales Staff and to students on placement.

 

Study and IT facilities

 

  • Two main study spaces with tables, chairs and also breakout chairs.

  • The library has 6 NHS PCs available with 1 networked printer.

  • Cardiff University Citrix links and Library search available on all PCs.

  • The Cloud Wi-Fi available

  • Literature Searching 

  • Evidence based healthcare support

  • Book loans and requests

  • Binding service

  • Information literacy support including training in database use (Please call or email to pre-book a session with the Librarian)

  • Photocopying & printing.

 

Borrowing books

  • ​You may borrow a maximum of 10 books

  • Loans are for 4 weeks but can be renewed on request

  • You will receive regular email reminders about your loans

  • Books not on site can usually be requested from another library for you to collect

 

​Literature searches

  • We conduct literature searches, and provide training in database searching

  • Literature searching requests will be accepted from the online form or via email and returned to you via email

 

​Article & eJournal Access:

  • The majority of journals are now available to NHS Wales staff online

  • Please visit LibrarySearch for access

  • Please contact the STC Librarian for further help with article access

  • Articles not available through NHS Wales LibrarySearch can usually be obtained via the library
